But wait, there's more.....
All of us mothers know that letting your children watch TV is hazardous to their health, and sometimes to your own. It used to just be some random junky toy ad, but now we have 2-3 minute infomercials for the children's viewing enjoyment. My children think I need the Buxton organizer, the Ped Egg, possibly the Topsy Turvy tomato planter.... it's all good stuff. Well, this one we fell for...... THE BUTTERFLY PAVILLION. We actually did this a few years ago, and it's not that bad, the kids and I had a good time. So for Connor's birthday we broke down and bought one (at Target of course, momma hates S&H) and sent away for our precious caterpillars. They come in a plastic cup with their food and they grow and grow and grow, almost before your eyes. After they get good and fat and make their cocoons you transfer them to their new home.
And then about a week later they start coming out of their little cocoons. You feed them fruit slices, jello, sugar water for a couple of weeks and then you let them go. All 5 of our caterpillars made it into butterflies.
The little Con man thought it was pretty cool that he got to hold one. I hope this one made it, he sure didn't seem very energetic in flying away.

Good point about the 3-4 week pet. Kyle announced that he was getting a lizard after we move to Arizona. I was like, "Wait, you haven't gotten permission yet." He said that Dad said he could. I said, "Well, Dad didn't get permission either." Russ laughed at that, but seriously, I think it takes a yes vote from BOTH parents before we get anything that eats and poos.
i bought one of those once!! but then the kids lost the coupon for the caterpillars and so we didn't ever do it. i ended up just chucking the pavilion thing. sad i know. but now i wish we got a little more creative and just looked it up online. im sure we could have still ordered them. right? that is one cute chubby little big 5 year old baby hand :)
How fun. I'd be creeped out by the caterpillars but as long as the turn cute Im good with them. Cocoons are weird things too so that would be fun to see! Are the birds still around or are they flying in "bird paradise" with no cats around and a birdseed bell everywhere they turn? =)
Wendy I absolutely LOVE the last picture of Connor's hand and the butterfly. Absolutely gorgeous! Cute post!
Lolo, yes the birds are still around. They are now my messy little nemesis, so they will live forever I am sure.
Love it! Funniest dang thing. You just reminded me my daughters been wishing for the H2O Vac!! I'm glad you reminded me about that, I was going to blog it so I wouldn't forget.
Awww, I love that shot of Connor holding the butterfly. That one in the grass is pretty great too. Nicely done Wendy.
That is cool, my kids would love that!! Thoes infomercials are fun. It is crazy how the kids remember them.
That is absolutly the coolest thing...Ali gave something like that to Wyatt once I think! I love infomercials!
I've never seen this infomercial! How cool for kids to learn and watch. Did you guys read that book the hungry caterpillar too? I just read that to Kylee yesterday and then she hit me with the book. She's so nice. Cool pic of the b-fly and Connor. Nice!
Man....how'd I get so far behind? The butterflies are really cool, but that Conner boy is the cutest thing ever!
